Diamond Cutting Tools~ SCD Tools

1. Natural Diamond (ND)

Most of the natural diamonds is produced in the rocks which esists 2.5 billion years at least, and is formed under ground approximately 140-200 km. They gather tightly together to form a crystal structure with strong pressure and extremely high temperatures (about 2800℃). Because of high hardness and high Heat transfer coefficient, Diamond Tools have been used for cutting tools for a long time. The price of ND Tools are high, so it will be usually used for machining Optical element which required high precision.



2. Artificial Single Crystal Diamond ~ High temperature and High pressure method
 
Artificial single crystal diamond (SCD) belong to man-made single crystal diamond tools in a environment with high temperature(above 1000 ℃) and high pressure (above 500M). It is usually yellow color made with this methods. The largest size usually can reach 8mm. Because it is easily made, so it has been widely used for made diamond cutting tools, polishing tools and other diamond tools.

 

3. Artificial Single Crystal Diamond ~ CVD Methods

CVD called Chemical Vapor Deposition. This type Single Crystal Diamond are made in the environment with Hydrogen and Nitrogen and the color usually is White transparent. This is a method which can synthesis high quality crystalline diamond tools. It can be no Impurity, which will have better wear resistance and heat transfer coefficient and have better performance than Crystal diamond made with traditional method.

 


4. Performance Advantages of Crystal Diamond Tools
 
(1) The single crystal diamond tool has a very high hardness (10000 HV), so that good wear resistance is obtained;
(2) The cutting edge of single crystal diamond cutter can be sharply sharpened, and it is not easily for sticking and generating built-up edge when cutting, which can be used for ultra-thin cutting and ultra-precision machining;
(3) The friction coefficient is low, the deformation during processing is small, and the cutting force can be reduced;
(4) The cutting edge doesn’t have defects when observed under the 800-fold Nomarski microscope. When machining the non-ferrous metal, the surface roughness can reach Rz0.1-0.05μm, and the shape accuracy of the workpiece to be processed is controlled to be less than 50nm;
(5) Halnn selected single crystal diamond cutter particles have good consistency and the service life is 100 times or even several hundred times that of cemented carbide tools.
