Part 1 The Cutting Tools Materials for Aluminum Alloy
When machining Aluminum Alloy, if we don’t choose the proper cutting tool materials, it usually has some problems, such as sticking cutters and chips removal, which will lead to the cutting tools wear rapidly.
In current times, it has 3 types cutting tool materials for cutting aluminum alloy: Tungsten Carbide, Ceramics and Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD).
When we use TC Materials (such as YG8) machine aluminum alloy, the wear resistance is not good because of high content silicon, the silicon will affect with the tungsten which will accelerate the wear.
Compared with tungsten carbide inserts, ceramic cutters will have higher hardness, better wear resistance and high temperature performance, however ceramic is brittle, and the thermal conductivity will be easy to cause cracks and damage the blade.
So PCD Tools will be the first choice for machining aluminum alloy materials for large scale industry production. PCD Tools can be used for machining aluminum alloy materials with high precision, high efficiency, high stability and high surface finish because of the characteristics of high hardness, high abrasive resistance, high conductivity and low friction coefficient.
