How to choose the right Milling Cutting Tools

When we choose the milling tools, we need to pay more attention on both the milling tool body and the cutting tool holder. The following is some tips we need to notice:
(1) The Tool is used for the CNC Center or Common Milling Lathe;
(2) The materials and hardness of the component;
(3) The Specification of the MIlling Tools, such as blade length, whole length, blade diameter and the shank diameter.
With the development of the cutting tools materials. The manufacturers have researched superhard milling tools ~ PCD Milling Tools. It has high hardness, about HV8000, is the hardest materials in the world, which has excellent cutting performance, can be used for both common lathe and cnc center.
How to choose the diameter of the milling tools?
We can choose the milling tools diamter depending on the specification of the equipment and the component.
(1) Face Milling Tools.
We need to consider the Machine power and the diameter of the cnc machine tool spindle. The face milling tool diameter D=1.5d (d refer to Spindle diameter), When make bulk order, it also can be D=1.6l (l refer to the cutting width).
(2) End Mills
We need to consider the machining size requirements, and make sure the machine power that the cutting tools need. If it need small diameter endmills, we need to consider that if the spindle speed can arrive 60m/min (the bottom cutting speed for the cutting tools)
The endmills also can be divided into 2 types: through center and not through center.
For the end mills that through center, it can drill directly into the workpiece, which is suitable for milling the component which has some Pits, it will help improve the efficiency.
For the end mills that not through center, it is usually used for milling surface, Steps and others.
(3) Slot Milling Cutters
The diameter and the width of the slot milling cutters, we can choose depending on the component size, and make sure the cutting power.
All above milling cutters can be made with Tungsten carbide or Steel Body and the PCD/CBN Tips. It depends on the diameters and materials of the component.
