Carbon fiber reinforced Polymer (also called CFRP) has good Specific strength, specific rigidity, is a type composite formed of resin, ceramic, metal, cement, carbon, or rubber as matrix, and is light. For example, in automotive industry and aerospace industry, CFRP materials are used for the structure, the weight will be about 50% lower than Steel, 30% lower than Aluminum; and in aerospace industry, about 80% of the body is made of CFRP, which have occupied about 50% of the whole weight. So CFRP have been widely used in aerospece and automotive industries.
However, the mechanical character of cfrp and metal is very different, CFRP will easily produce some defects, such as glitch and fracture, so when machining these component, pcd inserts(diamond tools) will be more suitable than traditional tungsten carbide inserts.
