BN-S20 solid cbn insert for turning Laser cladding component

Part1 The application of Laser cladding
Laser cladding has been used the practical process through half-century development, and is widely used in different industries: automotive, aerospace and petroleum industry, ect.  The following will share something about above application:
(1) Automotive industry
The failure mode of the automotive transmission is mainly in gear, shaft, shell and other parts, and most of the failure is surface wear. And the materials of gears and other shaft mainly are 20CrMnTi, and the housing material mainly are FC200, FC250,ect, some will chose 40CrMo. With laser cladding technology, the hardness will achieve HRC55~58.
(2) Valve Industry
When using the valve, the Sealing surface is corroded by the media with long time. So the sealing surface will be repairing. With laser cladding technology, the component will get good performance than traditional methods.

Part 2 How to machine the component through Laser cladding
The hardness of the component that through laser cladding will be above HRC50, some will be above HRC70. Normal processing methods include turning and grinding. For some complex component, it doesn’t have corresponding grinding machine tools, and grinding has low efficiency. So it only can use turning process.
The cutting tools that used for turning laser cladding component need have high hardness, excellent wear resistance and impact resistance. In current market, the cutting tools materials include carbide insert, ceramic inserts and cbn inserts. Carbide insert only suit for the component which hardness is below HRC45, ceramic insert only can be used for the process with small allowance, it will be easily chipping when meet some defects. So cbn insert will be the best choice for turning laser cladding component. Common brazing pcbn inserts only can be used for continuous turning process and large allowance.

Materials:27SiMn (HRC55 through laser cladding)
Selected Insert:BN-S20 CNMN120712
Cutting Condition: ap=1mm,Fr=0,15mm/r,Vc=145mm
Machining Effect: Compared Halnn Bn-S20 and carbide insert, it not only improve the efficiency, but also reduce the produce time and save the costs, the surface roughness will reach Ra0.4, and can achieve long tool  life.
