1. What is CBN Materials?
CBN is named by cubic boron nitride, Cubic boron nitride is a synthetic superhard material. The hardness is only second to diamond, and it is the cutting tools sintered through high temperature and high pressure, has high hardness, high abrasive resistance and stable performance, is widely used for non-ferrous metal and alloy materials.
2.CBN Tools can be used for machining cast iron?
Yes, CBN Inserts can be used for machining gray cast iron and high hardness cast iron, and perform well.
3.What Industry that cbn inserts can be used for?
Divided by industry, it can be used for mining machine, Metallurgical rolls, Construction machinery, automotive, energy, heavy machine, mold, air-condition compressor, aerospace,ect.
Divided by materials, it can be used for high hardness cast iron(High Chromium cast iron, Ni-hard cast iron, white cast iron, alloy cast iron), hard steel(hardened steel, high manganese steel, abrasive resistant steel), gray cast iron, and high grade ductile cast iron and other difficult to machine materials(Surfacing rolls, spraying rolls.)
Divided by typical components, cbn inserts can be used for rolls, slurry pump, impeller, pump housing, liner, brake disc, brake drum, engine, gearbox, gears, gear shaft, bearings, ball screw, impeller, crushing cone,ect.
4. Why cbn inserts can be used for machining component which hardness is above HRC60?
(1) CBN Inserts have high hardness and abrasive resistance, it has high hardness, about HRC95~100, so will have good abrasive resistance, and can machine the component which hardness is above HRC60.
(2) CBN Insert has high stability and high temperature red hardness, and can obey high temperature about 1400~1500 ℃, so it will not chip or wear seriously when machining the component which hardness is above HRC60.
(3) CBN Insert have low Friction coefficient and excellent anti-adhesive ability, it will not produce Stagnant layer, built-up tumor, so it can obtain high surface quality.
(4) However, cbn insert will defect with the water when the temperature is above 1000℃，so we need to use dry cutting method.
5. What inserts can be used for machining rolls?
The cutting tools that can be used for rolls include carbide insert and cbn insert, when the hardness is above HSD60, we need to choose cbn insert. Halnn has researched 3 types cbn inserts for high hardness rolls-BN-S10,BN-S20 and BN-K1, BN-K1 solid cbn insert can be used for machining cast iron rolls, BN-S20 can be used for steel rolls, BN-S10 can be used for high speed steel rolls above HRC60(specific for high speed steel rolls)
6. How can we calculate the tool life of cbn inserts?
