A:The hardness of gear steel after heat-treatment usually is above HRC45,some manufacturers choose carbide insert or coating inserts, and all of them are specific to steel parts ,but they are always not wearable, has low efficiency, need to change the inserts frequently, but they all don’t know choose what tool materials to machining gear steel efficiently.
In fact, many small small-to-mid size manufacturers didn’t know that cbn inserts can machine high hardness gear steel, just know that carbide insert can be used for steel parts. Specific for the steel parts which hardness is below HRC45, the carbide insert will be the right choice, however for high hardness gear wheel, cbn insert will be the right choice.
